My mom had a little edge and a lot of sass. She liked to live large and enjoyed cooking. But above all, I remember her as a great mother. The love she had for her family was extraordinary, and that love has stayed with me for my whole life.
At twenty-one years old, I had my associate’s degree, and I was working in a deli on Long Island. Most of my friends were putting their time in at blue-collar jobs and I just figured there had to be more to life than what we had going on. So I called up my aunt and uncle in Southern California and went to live with them while I found my feet out West.
Leaving New York caused me to grow up very quickly. It was really a great change for me. I finished up my bachelor’s degree and worked a couple of jobs in SoCal, from manufacturing doctors’ and nurses’ uniforms to serving as a subcontract administrator for Hughes Aircraft.
At age thirty, I got the opportunity to move up to the Bay Area for a position with another defense contractor, and later worked for Sony Electronics. Between Sony, Pacific Bell, and NorTel, I spent over fifteen years in tech. And you know what? I ended up hating it. I wanted to help others, and to see things get accomplished by my efforts. That wasn’t happening in corporate America, where I had to run my decisions by a hundred different people before anything got done.
So in the aftermath of the Dot-com bubble burst, I was looking to make a change. What I wanted more than anything was to add some value to the world. The Jewish mantra of tikkun olam (“heal the world”) is what drives me. That’s what drew me to real estate—the opportunity to impact people’s lives in a positive way.
I still count my marriage as a positive experience, especially because it gave me my kids, who I count as my greatest accomplishment. My daughter Rachel is smart and talented, and I have no doubt that she’ll flourish in whatever she chooses to do. My son Jacob is a compassionate young man with a good heart, and he too will do well no matter what path he takes. I’m immensely proud of both of them, and I want nothing more than for them to live full, happy lives.
When I’m not preoccupied by real estate, you can find me growing vegetables in my garden—or cooking them in my kitchen. I’ve also started spending time refurbishing a 1972 VW Bug convertible. And for the first time in twenty years, I got my passport again. I don’t know where I’m going yet, but I’m going someplace!
I would love to lend my knowledge and experience in real estate toward helping you go someplace, too. But I don’t expect your business simply because of our relationship—I only ask that you take the time to interview me and see if I might be the best agent for you.
Buying or selling real estate is often an enormously important transaction, and the representation you receive from your agent can have significant impact on your results. I realize that you have many options when choosing a real estate agent, and I encourage you to speak to several different agents. If you decide to work with someone else, I won’t be offended: I want you to pick the agent that’s the right fit for your particular needs. If that person ends up being me, I promise to work diligently to exceed your expectations.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. When you or someone you know is in need of a real estate agent, I hope you give me the opportunity to demonstrate my services and interview for the job.
